Bautista is so underwhelming

Jose Bautista simply so mediocre (at best) to garbage (mostly) that it's unbearable. When we acquired him from the Pirates last year, he was supposed to have some pop in his bat. But where is it? He has just 3 home runs this season after slugging 16 once, and 15 twice in the past three campaigns. I don't expect him to crack 30+ home runs (considering he's a pedestrian .239 career hitter), but would it kill him to do just something, anything! at the plate?

Last night against New York epitomizes his year with the Jays. He grounded out into a double play, and with two chances to tie the game in the 7th and 9th innings, he struck out and flew out to centre. It basically has come to the point where you just expect him to get out in a critical point of a game.

I know Bautista is a versatile player, and is pretty darn good in the outfield, but he offers little else. He's a good bench player, but that's what he should be. A BENCH PLAYER. Not a guy who should've played 68 games already this season.

The perfect word to describe Bautista is underwhelming.

The Bautista Appreciation Society does not appreciate this post.

haha I had a feeling I might be hearing from the Bautista Appreciation Society on this one lol. The guy is a good outfielder, but he brings little else, no?

Until Rolen was traded, I was pretty excited at the prospect of watching Bautista gun down runners from left field. But now that he's filling in at third base, his lack of offense is really showing. The BAS still loves him though.

Buck Coats would be more of an asset than Jose Bautista...

I think you nailed it. Bautista is a bench player and when you give him too many starts it really begins to show. The Jays have got too many holes. We don't even have a legitimate number four hitter now that Rolen's gone (and Rolen though he performed is a stretch batting clean up).

Sigh. I was hoping for the Halladay trade and then a series of trades to like the Pirates did. I really want to see the team rebuilt.

Buck Coats! Buck Coats!! I still get a kick out of his name. He is doing pretty well though leading off in Vegas, hitting .295. I figure he, like Ruiz, are AAAA players that might get a short look with the Jays, but more than likely not much else.

As far as rebuilding, we can hope that Lyle Overbay clears waivers and is shipped out by the end of August...
